Staying in School Education Sponsorships

The point of this programme is to help students to stay in school when they would not otherwise be able to, whether it be loss of parents, loss of income from a global pandemic, the nearest school is too far away, or when the parent or student cannot afford the cost of furthering their education, and they come to us for help.

Most of the students that have been sponsored have come from the wilderness areas we visit on safari, and so supporting them has meant supporting their communities who live alongside the wildlife we visit. In our experience, there is a positive ripple effect for every student that is sponsored.

Francis Lemoile and his wife, Monicah

For example, Francis Lemoile. He went to Kipsing Academy, the first school we helped to build in Samburu, and then was sponsored through tertiary education by a kind family. He is now working for SAFE Samburu, helping educate his community about HIV/AIDS, female genital mutilation (FGM) abandonment and child’s rights! They have recently been involved with a big breakthrough: on the 9th of March this year, the Samburu elders signed the Kisima declaration to abandon FGM in the Samburu community, which is fantastic news. What’s more, Francis and his wife Monicah are also now supporting 14 girls from poor families in his community to attend school!

Sammy Lemiruni

Another example is Sammy Lemiruni, who another family generously sponsored through diplomas in Tour guiding & Administration and Tour Operations. He has worked his way up to managing Saruni Rhino Lodge, which he has been doing for the past 4 years. The Lodge is in Sera Conservancy, East Africa’s first community-owned rhino conservancy. They offer specialist rhino-tracking experiences, which provide the community with a valuable income stream and are helping to protect these critically endangered animals.

This year 29 students are being sponsored through the Foundation. Despite the disruption of last year, all of them are progressing well and are extremely grateful to stay in school.

We always have more students coming to us for help, and the more we raise, the more students we can help.  If you would like to sponsor a student, please contact us, or if you would like to donate to the programme, you can do so below!
