Shelter Botswana Pyjama Party

As winter began in Botswana in June, the incredible teachers at Shelter Botswana’s Preschool hosted a Pyjama Party.

This was more than just a simple, fun seasonal activity. It was a thoughtful way to meet a real need.

Many of the children who come to the shelter’s preschool arrive with very little, sometimes without even basic sleepwear. The shelter helps to provide clothing, and the amazing teachers used this Pyjama Party as a way to provide the kids with more warm pyjamas and sleep caps. Some items were donated by local people and businesses in Maun, and the rest were provided by the school using support from our Royal African Foundation Family.

The teachers also designed the Pyjama Party to be a really meaningful learning experience, and in the days leading up to the event, the preschool team sparked engaging conversations with the children about the winter season—introducing new vocabulary around cold weather, clothing, and environmental changes, to help the children better understand and describe the world around them.

The kids enjoyed hot dogs, and the party ended with a rare treat: a movie on a big screen and popcorn, which brought squeals of delight and laughter.

These moments don’t happen by chance.
