Big Life - Chyulu Rhino Waterholes Improvements

If you have ever sat and watched a waterhole (as all of you probably have), you can readily attest to just how much life one patch of water can attract and sustain.

Thanks to the support of some of you wonderful people, Big Life has been able to repair and upgrade the storage and capacity at three waterholes in the Chyulu Hills, so they are now able to provide a constant supply of water for the rhino and a whole host of other wildlife.

Below is some more information and pictures of the improvements and the wildlife visiting these waterholes (the surprised serval at the bottom is my favourite).

Kitie outpost and waterhole:

At the Kitie outpost and waterhole, Big Life has increased the water storage from 0L to 10,000L. They did have a tank at this waterhole a few years ago, but it was broken too many times by elephants as it was only surrounded by stone and didn’t have solar-powered electric fencing protection. To fill the waterhole, they had to supply it from the Mukruro borehole, but now it has its own water storage on the hill closest to it and re-routed pipes which are ensuring a constant water supply.
