Spotlight On: Christine Levoos

What is your role here?

I work as a Personal Assistant, I also handle accounts and administration work dealing with staff management and office management.

How long have you been working for Royal African?

It’s about four and a half years now.

How did you come to work here?

I was introduced to Chris and Hannah by the wife of my former employer as they were no longer operating in Tanzania. Learning that Chris and Hannah were in search of someone, we arranged a meeting to discuss the opportunity. Chris and Hannah were looking for someone capable of office management and understanding the importance of flexibility within the safari industry.

What do you like most about working here? 

There is a lot I like, but I enjoy the collaborative environment. I enjoy being able to support and boost the directors and crew. I love teamwork. I appreciate the communication between the directors and the team – it’s not something you find everywhere and it really makes my job enjoyable.

Where are you from? 

I am from Arusha.

Tell us about your family and home 

I come from a family of 9 children, I am the 7^th born. There are 2 boys and 7 girls in my family. Unfortunately, four of my siblings and my father have passed away. My mother is 88 years old now. I have a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the Open University of Tanzania and a degree in finance from Moshi University. I am a very proud mother of four children – two biological and two who I adopted from my sisters who sadly passed away. My two adopted children have educational support from the Royal African Foundation.  One of my sons, Collins, is currently in Kenya where he is supported by RAS Partner Peter Silvester, working as an apprentice in his company and learning a lot. My eldest daughter, Rose, has a diploma in Publics relations. Rose had a baby last year and is currently looking for new employment. Being a mother is very important to me, I love supporting my children however I can and they are all doing fantastic.

Where is your favorite place? 

Manyara Ranch Conservancy – this is an area that is very important to protect as it is not a national park. I visited here recently when the camp was setting up to welcome some guests and I really enjoyed all the wildlife, especially the giraffe and elephants.

Do you have a favorite animal?

For domestic animals, I love dogs! For wild animals, I just love zebra – I love the pattern and their beautiful shape. They are a very polite animal!
