Westgate Dispensary
The Westgate Dispensary Clinic serves 2,449 households around Westgate Community Conservancy in Samburu County, Kenya. When some Royal African Safaris guests visited it last year, it was in serious need of repairs.
Thanks to their support through our Royal African Foundation, the following repairs and improvements have been made to the dispensary:
All broken windows have been replaced:
Three new external doors have been installed, and all doors inside and out have been repaired and painted.
New benches have been installed for waiting patients. Now up to 20 patients can sit comfortably while they wait for medical attention.
Guttering and an additional 10,000 litres of water storage has been installed, and according to Dr. Anthony Oruoch, head of the clinic:
“This has enabled us to store much more needed water at the clinic. This has really improved the hygiene and sanitation of our maternity care’’
A set of new shelves has been installed in the nurse’s office, as well as a new desk, new nurse’s chair, and patient chairs. This week Dr. Anthony: said:
‘With a comfortable chair and decent table, I have a workstation that has improved my efficiency while attending to patients. With the shelves just above my head, I can access patients’ records with ease, shortening the time spent serving a patient. This means I can serve more patients than before.’’
With support through our foundation, local community members have helped to rebuild the main gate.

This project has better enabled this clinic to serve its patients, and it has also helped to create short-term employment for several people from the community which has helped them to provide for their families.
Thank you so much to all of you who have supported this project.
We look forward to continuing our long relationship with the Westgate community, and we are grateful to all of you who have supported them over the years through us!
