Shompole Teachers

You may remember from the Royal African Safaris end-of-year Newspaper, that six teachers’ salaries are being sponsored in Shompole. Three by some of you wonderful people and three by the community who are using the conservation fees they earn from Shompole Wilderness to match the donation and cover the cost. (They are pictured above here – left to right – Fred, Charity, Joyce, Justus, Peter and Isaac.)

Well, we are so pleased to say that thanks to some more of you, four more teachers’ salaries are now going to be supported, which will make a total of 10 teachers’ salaries this year!

The cost of education continues to be the largest barrier to children staying in school in Kenya. By covering these teachers’ salaries, you are helping to make school more affordable for over 1000 students in Shompole, and this means that more students than normal will be able to go back to school this year.

You are also helping these teachers to be paid consistently. Many of them were often not being paid and were voluntarily continuing because they cared deeply for the children they were teaching.

So, on behalf of Teachers Fred, Charity, Joyce, Justus, Peter and Isaac, the four new teachers who will be selected shortly, and all the children they support, thank you so much!
