TBI
Each time we charter the Turkana Basin Institute’s plane for safaris in Kenya the profits go directly towards funding their world-renowned research and community outreach programmes.
Turkana Basin Institute (TBI) is a world leader in human origins research. However, they have also expanded their scientific research to investigate numerous questions about the origins of modern African megafauna; sustainability; climate change and modern human culture and diversity. Moreover, they are host to entomology projects looking at bee diversity, an issue critical to the world food supply, as well as studies on insect vectors of diseases, with implications for worldwide health.
TBI is not just an asset to the human pursuit of knowledge, they are an asset to marginalised local communities in Turkana County, northern Kenya.
They run a range of community outreach programmes which aim to make positive and sustainable changes in the lives of the local people that surround the lake in areas such as education, health, natural heritage awareness and environmental preservation.
Currently, during the drought, Turkana Basin Institute is distributing 40,000 litres of clean water per week to surrounding local communities in Ileret and is working with academic partners and the government to develop solutions to improve access to reliable water in Turkana.
Thank you for supporting them in this work!
