When we were making other infrastructure improvements to the Laresoro Community Dispensary in 2022, the dispensary team requested a tuk-tuk to be able to drive to remote villages to offer bi-monthly backpack nurse clinics and to take patients to the county hospital.

With the help of our Royal African Foundation family, we provided them with a tuk-tuk, and together, in partnership with Kalama Community Conservancy, we have been supporting the tuk-tuk and dispensary team since then.

Last year, the Laresoro dispensary team was able to provide 814 people with primary medical care through the bi-monthly backpack nurse clinics, a 13% increase on the year before.

The beneficiaries have mostly been mamas and children who have received medical services like antenatal and postnatal monitoring, vaccinations, and nutritional supplements.

The tuk-tuk has also helped to transport mothers during labour to the dispensary, and this is something they and their families have been very grateful for. For example, as Lkubwa Lenyakopiro from Nakwamor said, “I was away from home when my wife went into labour, but the Tuk Tuk collected her and took her to the dispensary, and their quick response saved her life. I am very thankful for such a provision.”

In addition to this, the Tuk Tuk has helped take 11 mothers to Archer’s Level 4 Referral Hospital to help them with complex emergency complications during labour or childbirth.

All these mamas and children live alongside the wildlife of Kalama Community Conservancy, and without your support, they likely wouldn’t have received this medical care, given the long distances to the clinic and the dangers posed by wildlife along the way.

So, thank you so much for helping them and for reducing the risks of human-wildlife conflict in this area in Samburu County, Kenya. Below are some photos of a few of those you helped last year.

Thank you also to those of you who have generously sponsored the Tuk Tuk! We are so grateful to you, and we look forward to updating you about the people you are helping through your kindness and generosity.
