Forest Guardians Water Bowser

Last year some of you helped our RAS team to upcycle a trailer and give it to Rob and Sarah and the rest of the Forest Guardians who then got some tanks and turned it into a water bowser. Since then you have been helping to cover the running costs of the bowser, and we are happy to report that it has been helping a lot of people in three communities near the Sacred Forest (which is part of the Sand River Corridor)!

The Forest Guardians Team have been using the water bowser to supply much-needed fresh water to three schools, including Osopukooirobi where the closest fresh water is 4 km away in the Kanunka river valley.

They have used it to supply water to those still using the grow bags you helped to support during the Covid 19 Lockdowns, and in addition to this, the bowser has been used to supply water to community ceremonies and weddings, funerals, and graduations.

When the water bowser barrels are not attached, the trailer is being used to harvest crops, and take produce to markets.

Last year it was even used by Mzee Ole Nyakunyi to pay his school fees for two children at Naikarra Primary in what can only be described as a truly African system of barter – 50 bags of maize for two children for one year. Please see the pictures below!
