Alakra
Back to School
This year Alakra has been able to help yet another girl escape a forced marriage and stay in school, thanks to the support of some of you amazing folks!
Alakra was founded by RAS Partner and Royal African Foundation Board Member Tim Corfield. It aims to help primarily young Tanzanian women take control of their lives through education and skills training.
With your help, it is currently supporting 28 students, and so far, it has sponsored 48 young Tanzanians.
One of the new students this year is a 14-year-old girl whose father passed away, and her impoverished mother had betrothed her to an elderly suitor for immediate marriage in exchange for a bride price of 3 cows and a few goats. This would have meant she would have had to drop out of school.
The girl reached out to a previous Alakra student, who then persuaded the girl’s mother to allow her daughter to be educated. Now thanks to the kind sponsorship of some of you through Alakra, she has just started secondary school.
Her mother is thrilled that her daughter can now have at least the prospect of leading her own life, and so is she. They are so grateful for this opportunity for her, and so are we. So thank you so much for making this happen!
Thank you also to all of you who have supported Alakra over the years!
If you would like to donate to Alakra you can do so through our foundation.
100% of your donation will go to the project you choose, and your donation to our registered 501(c)(3) organisation is tax-deductible as provided for by law.
