What is your role?
I’m the head waiter for Simon Belcher’s mobile camp
How long have you worked in this role? Have you had any other roles with Royal African Safaris?
I’ve been with Simon since 1995 and have always worked as his head waiter
How did you come to work for Simon?
Simon asked me to come and work for him when he first got a mobile camp. Up until then, I had been working freelance within the industry.
Tell us a little bit about yourself?
I live in an area close to Tsavo East National Park and started in the safari industry when I left school. To begin with, I washed dishes and then worked my way up. I have been very lucky to work for Simon and Amanda as they have been very good to me over the years.
Do you have a favorite safari area and why?
I enjoy being in Meru National Park since it has beautiful campsites with good water and shade for the tents.
Do you have any memorable “safari “moments?
We were delivering tea and coffee to the guest tents in Nakuru National Park for an early wake-up call. All of a sudden we walked into the middle of a pride of lions that had come into the camp at night. Both lions and Watu (humans) ran away and all the tea and coffee was dropped in the grass. We had to deliver the wake-up drinks with the Land Cruiser and pick up our guests as well!
What do you like the most about your job?
We work very hard to move the camp around the country and our team has become very good friends. We all like it when the visitors come and we get to travel around the country and share our beautiful animals with them.
What’s your favorite animal and why?
My favourite animal is an elephant because they are caring and kind.
Is there a safari destination you would like to visit and why?
If we are working then I am happy. Anywhere on safari is a good destination.
