Botswana Meerkat Project

“We wanted to make sure the community benefitted as much as possible from hosting us on their land,” stated Michael Turner, one of our Botswana-based Royal African Safaris Partners.

So we employed a team of local community members to keep track of and slowly habituate two clans of Meerkats, which we could visit with guests. Our Botswanan Partners oversaw this project, but the Zutswa community trust was in charge of managing the team of people on site. We paid the wages of the team and their food costs when on site. This way, we created an immediate benefit to the community for protecting their wildlife and a special wildlife encounter for our guests to enjoy.

Thank you to all the guests who visited this area, you are the reason this project was possible!
