Meerkat Project
In 2018, RAS Partners Michael Turner, Shane Hedges and Adam Hedges worked with the Zutswa Community Trust in the Kgalagadi to set up a project to habituate meerkats so that the Zutswa Community would be able to offer this as a special wildlife encounter to visitors.
With funding solely from Royal African Safaris, Michael, Shane, Adam and 5 members of the Zutswa Community Trust successfully habituated two groups of Meerkats in the Kgalagadi. Once this project was established it was then handed back over to the Zutswa community to run and continue earning from, with the help of a new charity in the area.
Michael’s remark about this project was, “We wanted to make sure the community benefitted as much as possible from hosting us on their land, and this project created a direct benefit to the Zutswa community for protecting their wildlife.”
Thank you to all the guests who helped to support this project by visiting this area.
